About Dr. Jason Isaacs, PhD

I am a registered Clinical and Health Psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO). I've been fortunate to obtain a wide range of clinical experiences through the years, beginning with my undergraduate Honours Psychology degree at York University, and my later PhD training at Dalhousie University. My professional journey has involved specialized training, clinical practice, and research involvement across a diverse array of psychological needs and symptoms.

Through my career, I have dedicated myself to deeply learning and internalizing treatments for various issues that clients face. I am experienced in supporting individuals across many age groups, including children, adolescents, and adults. I also have a dual background working with mental health and physical health concerns, which has allowed me to address traditional mental health concerns (the specialty area known as Clinical Psychology) while also helping clients navigate the intersection of physical illness and overall wellness (a specialty area known as Health Psychology).

Having spent years cultivating deep expertise in virtual mental health delivery, my current focus is on fostering meaningful human connections and providing high-quality therapeutic support within a modern digital landscape.

Education and Training

I obtained my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Dalhousie University in Halifax in 2023. I also gained one year of training through a post-doctoral internship with NORPIC in Thunder Bay from 2022 to 2023. Earlier in my training, I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology from York University. Having started my undergraduate journey in business (at the Schulich School of Business) before transitioning into psychology, I have obtained a background that has focused not just on being compassionate, but also on being pragmatic and practical, and I aim to bring both of these lenses to my work with clients.

In addition to formal education, I have worked with clients across the age spectrum, and I have engaged in several additional training opportunities to enhance my skills in certain areas with each age group (e.g., formalized training in PTSD assessments/treatments, anxiety and OCD workshops, and several others). I have previously worked and trained at several notable locations including the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), IWK Health Centre (in Halifax), and St. Joseph's Care Group (in Thunder bay). Currently, I have a special interest in working with trauma and first responders, and I am the Staff Psychologist for Toronto Paramedic Services.

Research Background

In addition to my clinical background, I place great value on evidence-based practices. These practices come from research findings. Rather than simply staying up-to-date with best practices, I've been committed to engaging in research myself, as a way to support ongoing highest levels of care. I am what people in our field would call a 'scientist-practitioner.' To date, I've published 12 academic articles in scientific journals, and I've also authored a book chapter in an Oxford Handbook. I've been given the chance to share my publications (and other of my research findings) through almost 30 professional talks and academic conferences. Most of my research to date has focused on substance use, sleep, suicide, and cancer, and I am often looking for opportunities to continue engaging in research.

Over the years, I've had opportunities to work with esteemed researchers such as Dr. Sherry Stewart (Dalhousie University; research on substance use), Dr. Fred Schmidt (Lakehead University; research on psychology training programs), and Dr. Karen Fergus (York University; research on couples and cancer).

Dr. Isaacs Outside the Office

Outside of my time with clients and professional development, you can find me spending time with my partner, family, and friends, staying active, and taking up new skills and hobbies. Learning guitar and Spanish are top of the list currently. I also do my best to catch up with the latest psychology books. I'm happy to share more about myself. Just ask!
